Exquisite Warps: Painted Warps for TC2 Weaving
led by Meagan Smith
Exquisite Warps is a four part immersive workshop, covering the start-to-finish process of 1) winding 2) dye-painting 3) installing, and 4) designing files for a painted silk warp on a TC2 loom. This multi-part workshop is designed to be modular - attendees can sign up for individual sections, or the full workshop bundle (which includes a discount)! This workshop series will provide a group setting to exchange ideas and techniques as part of the learning process.
SCHEDULE:
Section 1: Warping on a Warping Mill
June 7 & 8 (Sat 11-2pm Sun 11-2pm)
Section 2: Warp Painting
June 14 & 15 (Sat 11-3pm Sun 11-3pm)
-Break-
June 21 & 22
Section 3: Dressing the Loom w/ Trapeze

Section 4: File Design for Painted Warps
July 19 & 20 (Sat 11-2pm Sun 11-2pm)
These processes will be taught through a series of technical demonstrations and dedicated studio exploration. Collaboration is a key component of all of the workshop sections, as students will be learning on a single shared warp that will be featured as LMRM’s next rental cycle. This means all sections of the warp will be collaboratively painted, all problems will be solved together, and skills will be built through community :)
Participation in any workshop section does not guarantee a specific rental portion of the warp, nor a rental slot. We book loom rentals separately from workshops.*Attending Section 4: File Design for Painted Warps will be considered commensurate with our authorization training, which means we would consider you authorized to request independent rental time on the loom outside of this workshop.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
This is beginner-friendly. The full set of workshops are great for attendees who have no prior experience with weaving or dye-painting, but are curious to experience the process from start to finish. Perfect for experienced weavers excited to work with a 100% silk warp or gain new skills in preparing long painted warps for any other TC2 weaving experience.
MATERIALS:
All yarn and dye supplies are provided. Please see individual sections for more details.
Capacity will be limited to 10 attendees. These workshops are in-person only.
No refunds are available for cancellations or no-shows. If you find yourself unable to attend for any reason, we encourage you to find yourself a replacement and transfer your ticket to someone else who may be able to go instead. In the rare instance of emergencies, we will refund ticket sales should LMRM ever need to cancel a workshop.

Meagan Smith (she/they) is an interdisciplinary fiber artist, she is specifically interested in the hybridization of craft, design, and technology. As a main component of her process, all of her warps are hand-painted with dyes prior to being woven on the loom. The resulting atmospheric color fields are optically blended through the weaving process. Influenced by her experience as a competitive swimmer, dynamic underwater movement and waves inspire her undulating weave patterns and lines. Following the infinite eb and flow of weaving that also resonates with swimming, Smith creates works that are focused on perception and heightened sensory experiences.
Smith received her BFA from The University of Akron in Painting (2015) and MFA in Textiles at Kent State University (2021). Smith attended artist residencies in Japan, Norway, and Iceland. This next year she has upcoming shows at SOIL, Eastern Washington University, Northern Kentucky University, and Kirkland Art Center (NY).
