Open Shed
In weaving, the open shed is the space through which everything passes in order to create interlaced cloth.
As a project space focused on experimentation, LMRM aims to facilitate that open shed for weavers to exchange ideas. LMRM’s artist program provides artists with the opportunity to knowledge-share processes, display samples from adjoining workshops, and amplify their practices.

Passementerie Mill

The Passementerie Mill is the successor to Roger's Textile and Trim, which, like The Weaving Mill, traces its roots back to the Theodore Merwitz Company. For the past several years they have been restoring the equipment to functional condition and teaching themselves how to operate the machines, some with parts dating back to the 19th century. They will be demonstrating weaving, warp knitting, circular braiding, cord plying, winding during open studio tours.
Please be sure to dress appropriately for the Passementerie Mill, as there are large and heavy machinery operating in an old space. The mill has an indoor capacity of 30 people. Parking is available on Churchill only. -
CHICAGO PULP

CHICAGO PULPis a Handmade Papermaking Mill & Studio dedicated to offering people: Pulp, Paper, and Practice. Chicago Pulp sells maserated pulp and handmade paper made in house. They also host handmade papermaking classes, workshops, and studio sessions that offer material, education, space, time and tools.

The Weaving Mill

The Weaving Mill is an artist-run industrial weaving studio that blends design, production, textile education and research-based practice. They produce small runs of fabrics, home goods and apparel, self-publish zines and other research-based publications, host an annual experimental artist residency program, and in partnership with Envision Unlimited, run textile education programs for adults with developmental disabilities. In all these realms, they aim to fill the space between the hand and industrially made and bring the mechanics of textile production into wider view.

Starling

Starling is a first-of-its-kind neighborhood amenity in North Lawndale. The space features Monday Coffee and flexible areas for residents and organizations to use such as a garden, a sound booth which can be rented by the hour, a workshop area, and a library nook filled with books by Open Books. Starling will provide spaces and programming for residents to gather, replenish, learn, and create. Stop by Starling to engage in programming, have a great cup of coffee, or just sit and relax!

Inclement Craft

Inclement Craft is a fine fiber business combining a love for fiber production, processing, sustainability, and local community. We are working out of a studio and community space in the Irving park neighborhood of Chicago, Il and more broadly in Chicago: growing Indigo, bast fibers, and indigenous silk worms.
The Chicago Weaving School

The Chicago Weaving School is one of the few places in the country dedicated to full-time, ongoing, weaving instruction. Beginning-through-advanced weavers come to the space for weekly classes and community. The large studio space is filled with over 100 looms, as well as warping boards, warping mills, swifts, shuttles, winders, cones, and skeins. There will be an exhibit of work by Jacquie Kohn in The Wayback, a basket weaving demonstration, and visitors can weave a narrowband bookmark on a floor loom.
There is metered parking on Irving Park Rd., and free parking on nearby residential streets like Keeler, Byron, and Grace. The school is one block from the Irving Park Blue line stop, and the Metra Burlington line.

Considered Cloth

Considered Cloth focuses on building a community of textile enthusiasts passionate about supporting the production of high-quality textiles that will last generations. Embracing the philosophy of the slow-production movement, Considered Cloth offers an alternative space where one can delve into the history and process of creating a textile by taking a class, sharing resources, and exchanging knowledge. Offering locally sourced yarns grown, milled in the U.S., and hand-dyed as well as a curated collection of unique yarns for weavers, knitters, and crocheters, in addition to weaving patterns & kits, and weaving & spinning equipment.

CMYK
LMRM was thrilled to invite Liz Ensz and Heather Mackenzie to design an experimental warp for our Nov warp cycle on our 4W TC2 loom.
Attendees received guided instruction from Liz and Heather on various ways to design with a CMYK warp and double weave constructions. Using Adobe Photoshop to edit imagery, we will explore color mixing strategies for a bright alternating four-color CMYK warp as well as the basics of drafting doublecloth, color-alternating twills that emphasize the vibrational, graphic directionality of twill structures.November 8 - November 9, 2025

Double Trouble
LMRM was thrilled to invite Kendall Schauder and Emily Winter of The Weaving Mill to design an experimental warp for our September warp cycle on our 2W TC2 loom.
Attendees received guided instruction from Kendall and Emily to learn the basics of building a doubleweave file for the TC2, and then expand their doubleweave drafting toolkits with the introduction of AdaCAD’s Layer Notation operation. Working on a striped warp featuring two distinct color and material systems, students will have the opportunity to play with both graphic and textural plaids. The contrast between a wool warp on the first beam and a cotton warp on the second will encourage play with the possibilities of differential shrinkage and surface quality.September 28 - September 29, 2025

Exquisite Warps: Painted Warps for TC2 Weaving
Led by Meagan Smith, Exquisite Warps was a four part immersive workshop, covering the start-to-finish process of 1) winding 2) dye-painting 3) installing, and 4) designing files for a painted silk warp on a TC2 loom. This multi-part workshop was designed to be modular - attendees could sign up for individual sections, or the full workshop bundle. This workshop series provided a group setting to exchange ideas and techniques as part of the learning process.

Weaving Workshop Weekend 2024
Weaving Workshop Weekend (WWW) acted as a culminating celebration of LMRM’s first year of public programming. Over 3 days, WWW attracted almost 200 attendees for a condensed series of artist lectures, topical workshops, a book release, a group exhibition, and open studio tours of various textile-related community resources in the city.

Sample Path
Sample Path is a group exhibition featuring new works by artists Cathryn Amidei, Danielle Andress, Jovencio de la Paz, and Poppy DeltaDawn. In the process of materializing new ideas into the work we see, artists traverse a meandering path of decisions. With each binary choice an artist makes, the map of possible outcomes doubles. And as such, this series of related choices in a creative decision tree grows exponentially. However, what we observe is always but a single, particular realization of the creative process. There exist many [infinite] such paths and these works, this show, is one such sample path.

Dear Grandpa,
Dear Grandpa, a solo exhibition with Thương Hoài Trần probes the often tangled exchange between familial bonds and the fragility of memory. Utilizing personal photographic archives and other ephemera, Hoài Trần unwinds the threads of their family's history, reminding us that to remember is to negotiate a delicate balance between preservation and excavation.
