Loom Rental Information

Our looms are available to rent for independent projects.

LMRM’s offering includes one floor loom and two semi-automatic TC2 digital jacquard looms. All of our looms are hand looms, so reservations are for artists who are looking for dedicated time to weave projects themselves. Reservation availability varies month to month—we encourage you to sign up for our newsletter for booking alerts.

Floor Loom Rental

The floor loom is available on a monthly basis, with a sliding scale fee of any number between $250-400/month. No questions asked, just let us know what fee you select.

A non-refundable 50% booking deposit (goes toward your total month rental fee) holds your space on the loom until you start your project. The full monthly rental fee is due by the first day of your booking. Booking periods are requested 1 month at a time. For projects requiring more time, we ask that you reserve the following month with an additional booking deposit.

TC2 Digital Jacquard Loom Rental

LMRM’s two TC2 Digital Jacquard Looms are available via a pay-per-use model. These looms come with warp material already installed, where each cycle features a shared warp amongst renters. This allows renters to weave back to back without any down time spent on setting up their own warp. LMRM curates standard and special warps depending on the season, offering renters the opportunity to experiment with new materials and new configurations.

Our two TC2 looms vary in size and will carry different warp material from each other during each rental cycle. Please refer to each loom for different rental fee options.

This is my first time weaving at LMRM - what would you recommend is a good amount to request for?

Most first-time renters book 4 sessions to acclimate to our looms, test their files, and comfortably weave 1-2 fully formed ideas in that time. If you have the flexibility of time, we strongly encourage scheduling 1 session on your first day, where you can dedicate the first four hours of your rental period toward sampling and acclimating. Many renters find a sweet spot scheduling their sessions in a 1:2:1 ratio to give them time to digest ideas and edit their files or take longer breaks between hours of weaving.

Generally:

2-3 sessions are ideal for just sampling and testing new structures and portions of designed files.
4-6 sessions are great for sampling + 1-2 fully formed thoughts/pieces.
6-10 sessions are necessary for 3 fully formed ideas with sampling and new file design time.

Minimum booking is two sessions (8 hrs) before you can increment single sessions (4 hrs) to your booking request. For example, renters can book three sessions over 1.5 days, or break up the two sessions across two days. Sessions do not have to be consecutive. Maximum booking requests are set at ten total sessions per cycle. Your requested sessions will be the number of sessions billed.

The maximum warp material use is 3 yards of warp per rental period. You must provide your own weft material.

A non-refundable 50% booking deposit (goes toward your total rental fee) holds your space on the loom. The full rental fee is due by the first day of your rental period. Material usage fees are charged on the last day of your rental.

You must attend a required authorization training in order to request individual rental time on our looms. This is a one-time authorization that does not expire, but ensures that you are properly equipped to use our studio and tools. You must be fully trained on the use of our loom before you will be able to use it, regardless of your experience as an artist. We only accept booking requests from artists who have completed our authorization session.

If you overstay your session or occupy the workspace around the loom beyond the session time, we will charge you overtime fees at a rate of $100/hour.

Renters must be capable of and trained to operate the loom and related equipment independently. LMRM open hours are always staffed and we’re here to minimize technical and mechanical issues with the loom and do our best to make sure you feel confident in front of our equipment. Should you require excessive assistance outside of this, we reserve the right to charge a fee of $100/hour of excessive assistance.

Please note that we do not assist renters with the artistic production of their project. We do however provide individual consultations if you find you need guidance beyond a 5 minute explanation. If you anticipate needing this additional support during your rental for either file design, artistic critique, or weaving demonstrations, we are happy to explore this with you!
