TC2 Loom Authorization - Individual
Date to be scheduled with LMRM staff
Total 1.5 hours
We offer group authorizations for $100/person once every 1-2 months. Keep an eye on our mailing list for notifications of when these will occur. We are also happy to schedule group authorizations by request for groups larger than 3 people. We schedule individual authorizations by request, which will take place during the first two hours of your first rental day. Please submit a booking request form noting your authorization status so we can include this in our review.
Location: LMRM
2003 W Fulton St, Studio #215, Chicago, IL 60612
This in-person group authorization will cover the basics of operating the TC2 digital looms at LMRM. Authorization is required prior to anyone’s first TC2 weaving session.
Led by LMRM staff, the TC2 Loom Authorization will ensure that renters will feel confident navigating independent studio access to both of our 2W and 4W TC2 looms. Please note that this is NOT an intro lesson on weaving or file-design. We encourage you to seek weaving lessons and file-design instruction outside of this loom use training. If you become authorized to book weaving sessions on our TC2 digital loom, you are expected to work independently.
This access training will cover:
General LMRM studio guidelines and booking process
Navigating the loom and its software
Best practices for fixing errors with the warp
Sample-weaving at one of the looms
Walk-through of using end-feed shuttles and winding pirns
Who is this for?
Anyone who wants to weave on our loom! We offer our TC2 loom for daily open studio rentals, so this authorization will help us ensure we can readily accept your future rental requests whenever our calendar is open.
This is also ideal for those who are TC2 weaving-curious to attend as an excellent informational workshop. While LMRM does not currently offer head-to-toe educational classes, we are happy to point you to resources for private lessons to bridge gaps in knowledge.
FAQ: I have extensive TC2 weaving experience at other facilities, will you still require authorization from me?
Excellent! We look forward to welcoming you to our studio : ) At LMRM, we don’t review project proposals or resumes. We keep our rental requirements at a minimum: authorization attendance, calendar availability, and a deposit.
Authorization covers our specific studio guidelines, since LMRM’s tools and rental format can differ from other facilities. Because LMRM weavers share a community warp between each other, authorization establishes a standard practice between all our renters. This ensures that LMRM staff can facilitate smooth turnovers between everyone booked on the loom. So regardless of experience, all prospective weavers must attend our one-time authorization. This helps keep our rental process accessible for everyone!
