Supplemental Warp Pile: Velvet & Terry Cloth w/ Jovencio de la Paz - June 20 & 21

$200.00

Join us for a 2-day Workshop!
Location: 2003 W Fulton St, Studio #215, Chicago, IL 60612

Saturday June 20, 1pm-4pm | Workshop Part 1

Supplemental Warp Pile: Velvet & Terry Cloth
led by Jovencio de la Paz

A supplemental warp allows weavers to create unique textiles that can emphasize texture, such as in velvet and terry cloth. We will explore how to use the double-back beam of the TC2 to add this supplementary warp into design files to create “pile,” the textured, accumulated yarn achieved in this unique weaving method. Students will leave the course with specific design structures they can use on the TC2 for velvet and terry cloth, as well as have a chance to sample these structures in their own designs. Both traditional and TC2-specific experimental design methods for supplementary warp will be explored.

Saturday June 20, 11am-12:30 pm | (Optional)

TC2 Loom Authorization
led by LMRM Staff

Your workshop ticket also includes TC2 loom authorization at no additional cost, which will allow you to rent either of LMRM’s TC2 loom for independent projects outside of this workshop. If you are already authorized, you may opt of out this and arrive shortly before the workshop with Jovencio starts at 1pm.

Sunday June 21, 10 - 1pm | (Optional)

Open Weaving Time
led by LMRM Staff

Your workshop ticket also includes group weaving time for attendees to familiarize themselves with the TC2 looms and the warp that Jovencio has proposed for LMRM’s experimental warp this cycle. We welcome to you to bring files you’d like to test from day 1’s demonstrations!

EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
This course is appropriate for intermediate weavers who have either had previous authorization or study on the TC2 loom, or advanced handweavers who may or may not have had TC2 experience before. Skill with PhotoShop is strongly encouraged, and understanding of the general design process for the TC2 is incredibly helpful.

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
-Personal weft materials for sampling are encouraged by not necessary
-Personal laptop with PhotoShop* installed

*PS will be used to demonstrate layer separation, build a pattern library, and apply pattern fills to layers. If you have other tools that can do this and feel comfortable bridging the gap, power to you!

Capacity will be limited to 15 attendees each workshop. These workshops are in-person only.

Participation in these workshops does not guarantee any specific rental portion of the warp, nor a rental slot. We book loom rentals separately from workshops and encourage you to book independent weaving time after the workshops here!

No refunds are available for cancellations or no-shows. Review our cancellation & refund policy, privacy policy, and media release policy here.
