3-day TC2 Intensive: Making a Mock-up
led by Hope Wang

This course is designed for those interested in translating a specific project into a piece woven at the TC2 loom.

We will utilize the studio resources (one 2W TC2 Loom, textile art books, weaving sample library, shared warp) to produce sample blankets, test files, and a final mock-up file for a textile project. Attendees will explore yarn materials, digital tools, and weaving equipment available at LMRM to refine their technical and conceptual design process. This is designed for someone who is looking for technical support but has a defined conceptual and/or visual focus. Hope will guide attendees through every step of designing the specific creative content they wish to bring to life at the loom.

Bring your grand visions and half-baked ideas. Bring your courage. Let’s make weavings!

What is a mock-up weaving? LMRM is a space for sampling, testing, and experimenting with new ideas. We emphasize the importance of making tests before weaving a final project, and asking questions for the development of future iterations. During this intensive, Hope will guide you in the steps to visualizing colors, materials, layout, weave patterns, and photo manipulation to bridge the distance between an idea in your head to what it might look like woven…and then what might need to be changed or reworked!

The objective of this intensive is not for you to make the fully realized project, though it is possible you might come close! We will make the same thing twice and compare the improvements and changes - a frustrating but essential part of the design process!

If you are looking for hourly consultation to augment for your individual rentals, please inquire at lmrmchicago@gmail.com.
